From glove to object

Every piece goes through the same steps, in the same order, by hand.

Infield & Co. saddler's arch stamp
  1. InspectionThe glove is checked for usable leather, tears and dry rot.
  2. DisassemblyLacing and stitching are removed so each panel can be judged on its own.
  3. Material selectionThe best panels are chosen. Creases and wear stay where they add character.
  4. Pattern and cuttingPatterns are laid to use the leather's marks, then cut by hand.
  5. Punching and stitchingStitch holes are punched and sewn by hand.
  6. Edge finishingEdges are sanded, burnished and sealed.
  7. The maker's markThe field stamp goes on last, and the piece gets its number.

Every finished piece is checked for cutting, stitching, edges, construction, symmetry, material choice, function and looks. Pieces that fall short don't go on sale.
